Square Quilt with Standard Horizontal Panel
Welcome back to Quilt Addicts Anonymous! I’m Stephanie Soebbing, and today we’re diving into a new tutorial from my book The Panel Quilting Workshop.
This project shows you how to take a horizontal quilt panel (or even a fabric repeat!) and add borders so it finishes at 2½ feet tall by 4 feet wide — perfect for pairing with 12″ blocks. In this video, you’ll learn:
- 🧵 How to trim and square up your fabric panel — even when it’s not perfectly printed
- ✂️ How to adjust your borders to fit your specific panel
- 📐 Tips for pressing seams open for flatter joins and straighter seams
- 💡 Why it’s okay to “franken-pattern” a little when your panel doesn’t match the exact measurements
Whether you’re a confident beginner or an experienced quilter looking for new panel ideas, this tutorial gives you the confidence to make any panel work for your next quilt. 📚
